• All the beef animals are born either on coastal plain farms or within the local area. They are reared on their mothers milk and grass for the first six months and, after weaning, their diet is predominantly flower-rich grass which contributes greatly to the taste and quality of the meat.
• Cattle are reared naturally on marshes and pasture where they are allowed to mature slowly , enjoy two summers at grass and are kept until around two years old - long by modern standards.
• The cattle are dispatched and prepared in East Hampshire and West Sussex so little transportation is involved. This benefits the welfare of the animals, keeps food miles to a minimum, helps support local businesses and the local economy and minimises greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.
• As well as taking two years to produce, the meat is hung traditionally to enhance its tenderness and flavour before being prepared, packaged and labelled. There can be few products which take so long to prepare, yet are so affordable!
The meat is available as:
5kg, 7.5kg or 10kg Traditional boxes, as 5kg Speciality Steak Supreme boxes or 6kg Speciality Steak Supreme Plus boxes, or as 6.5kg or 8kg Mince, Braising, Brisket and/or Burger boxes - (quantity of each item is your choice), (note max quantity of brisket per box is 2kg).
The beef is presented in conveniently sized fresh portions which are all vacuum packed and labelled. Each Traditional box contains roasting joints, sirloin and/or rump steaks and a selection of some or all of the following; mince, burgers, minute steaks and braising steak (variations are possible depending on customer preference and existing order specifications).
The Traditional 10kg box also contains slightly more of the best quality joints, normally including fillet steak and/or a rib on the bone joint. The Speciality Steak boxes are available from September each year, until the following April, when our BBQ Boxes will take their place until September. Please see our products page for specification details of our Steak boxes. Our Mince and/or Braising Steak boxes are available all year round and you can choose the percentages of Mince, Braising and Burgers you prefer in your box, (including of course 100% Mince, Braising or burgers if you wish), Brisket is also available up to a 2kg limit. .
All box deliveries are free of charge in our local area, (between Portsmouth and Fontwell and up to Petersfield), outside the area there is a small delivery charge of £5 for single 5kg Traditional boxes, and single Mince and/or Braising Steak boxes.
The current traditional box scheme price is £8.90/kg, our Steak boxes are charged at £11.00kg for a Supreme box and £13.50kg for the Supreme Plus box. Mince, Braising, Brisket and/or Burger boxes are charged at £6.00kg for 6.5kg and £5.50kg for 8kg boxes (please note there is a £1.00 additional charge for each pack of 5 burgers ordered). Our prices compare very favourably with supermarket brands of premium beef but have the added benefits of wildlife preservation, animal welfare, environmental conservation, low food miles and supporting small local farmers and the local community. (Please note different prices apply for individual cuts purchased via the farm shops).
