On the 27th of April 2008, and in partnership with Chichester Harbour Conservancy, we will be holding a Farm Walks and Talks experience. The walks will be on the Coastal Grazing Marshes of Northney Farm, Hayling Island, on Chichester Harbour (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and will include areas not normally open to the public. The experience will be free of charge and will include light refreshments. Lunch will also be offered for a charge. The farm has some excellent areas of grazing marsh, grazed by dairy cattle and more recently some beef cattle, to supply the brand. The farm also owns Stoke Fruit Farm Shop (just across from the farm), and produces much of the fresh produce sold there, the shop also stocks our beef.

Our walks on these stunningly beautiful salt-tinted landscapes (designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and County Wildlife Sites), will offer fantastic views over the harbour, plus the chance to see and hear about the special wildlife residing upon the marshes. Wildlife species you may encounter include Lapwing, Oyster Catcher, Red-shank and Skylark, and with luck, mammals such as Water Vole. You will also learn about their importance and about issues surrounding coastal farming.  We will also explain and show the importance of the marsh, as well as the lifestyle of our animals, verifying Three Harbours Beef’s responsible free-range ethos.

You will be able to find out about why Three Harbours Beef exists and how it helps to support local farmers, the ethical lifestyle of the cattle and the flora and fauna (some endangered), residing upon the marsh. Additionally you will see why we want to encourage and support the farmers in keeping the marshland, their beautiful animals and the free range status, before becoming financially unable due to economic pressures, in turn giving up the marsh for arable or even developmental use. Please help us to support this vitally important scheme and come and see what it is all about for yourselves.
